Odhran Cruise

PhD Student
University of Leeds

Odhran graduated with distinction from the University of Victoria, Canada, in 2023, earning a BSc. (Honours) in Chemistry. Throughout his degree, he conducted research primarily under the supervision of Prof. David Leitch and spent a summer placement at the University of Ottawa under Prof. Tom Baker’s guidance. At the University of Ottawa, Odhran worked on developing nickel and cobalt organometallic complexes. For his undergraduate thesis within the Leitch group, he aided in developing a palladium-catalysed direct alkenylation reaction using batch high-throughput screening methods. After graduating, he continued in the Leitch group for a summer, working on novel nickel (0) precatalyst development. Subsequently, Odhran moved to the United Kingdom to pursue an MSc in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry at the University of Oxford, which he completed with distinction in October 2024. Currently, Odhran is pursuing a PhD under the guidance of Prof. Thomas Chamberlain, Prof. Richard Bourne, Dr Adam Clayton, and Dr Gilian Thomas, focusing on developing self-optimizing flow systems for homogenous and heterogenous catalytic reactions.
